Rosie, Revere, Engineer written by Andrea Beaty and illustrated by David Roberts is a lovely story filled with inspiration and invention. Rosy Revere dreams of becoming an engineer. She scans through trash and collects material to build her inventions with. But she felt people were laughing at her gizmos – Uncle Fred had certainly been amused at her cheese hat gift to him. She kept quiet about her inventions. Then Rosie’s Great Great Aunt Rose came home for a stay. She used to work on building airplanes years ago. Great Great Aunt Rose shared her dream with Rose, “How I wish I could fly,”. This gave Rosie an idea and she built a flying machine – a heli-o-cheese-copter. While the cheese copter crashed in the end Great Great Aunt Rose reminded her that it had flown too so Rosie should not give up on her engineering dreams. A fun read with some smashing illustrations.
